Overview of Client

‘Connect’ at Holton Lee in South Dorset, is an annual five-day worship and teaching event focused on bringing together people and their love of God. More than 30 local churches gather together in a donated nature reserve of 350 acres. Participants listen to a number of seminars conducted by a team of speakers over the course of the five days, and can partake in a separate programme held for families and their children. There are also a number of various marquees, which hold specific activities throughout the event. The Connect event also offers camping facilities to those that wish to stay throughout the course of the five days, such as a camp-site shop, cafe and regular barbecues providing food.

What is the Client turnover?

What does the client require from us?

For the 2010 Holton Lee Connect Event, we were required to supply on site event security and protection for participants, crowd control and equipment care used on the event site. Our team has the experience to understand and effectively manage the associated operational challenges surrounding this event. Through organising a range of events security, our security management raises overall standards by ensuring team members work seamlessly together, with a high attention to detail. Working with our clients at all levels; we deliver a fresh approach to support security service delivery, at every stage we strive to exceed our client’s expectations and are always available to offer a helping hand where additional help may be required.

What is the project?

Allied Guarding worked with the event organisers to design the most effective security programme possible, and then applied our own principles to maintain the highest level of care and surveillance providing a secure environment for all event participants and organisers. The most problematic hours of disruption of the event had previously occurred between 8:00pm- 8:00am. During these hours four manned guards regularly patrolled the camp-site surveying the grounds of the camp-site and other activity based marquees, ensuring no non-attendees entered and caused disruption.

We were also responsible for the protection of audio and visual equipment used in the vicinity. This was dealt with through high levels of vigilance by our manned guards and use of patrolling vehicles. These are fitted with flashing beacons to ensure the vehicles are seen at greater range throughout the hours of darkness. All our vehicles are sign written as a visual deterrent and also equipped with a fire extinguisher and emergency response first aid packs to be used if the need arises. On this occasion we also carried canine security within the van providing further safety for the campers and as a safeguard against intimidation and threats.

What are/could be their problems?

Prior to Allied Guarding security, campers had been intimidated, threatened and physically harmed by local people that did not agree with the basis of the event. Disruption and theft from participants was also an issue, which left a distressed atmosphere during the remainder of the Connect event.

Results

Since efficient security has been carried out there by Allied Guarding has been a complete elimination of all intimidation from non-participants of the connect event, and no further equipment or personal possessions have been stolen.
